Field Instruments are a type of Instrumentation.
These include the systems and devices used to monitor and control processes. For classification purposes, the grouping is hierarchical: the highest level defines the product and system typesuch as flow measuring devices or pressure measuring deviceswhile the next level indicates the function, and individual categories are identified by the operating technology used to make the measurement, such as magnetic or ultrasonic flow meters.
Local controllers are not considered within this subcategory, as they are less common in modern plants, and pneumatic?driven applications are generally excluded as well.
