HEAT EXCHANGERS for HEAT TRANSFER EQUIPMENT AND VESSELS.
Heat Exchangers are a type of Heat Transfer Equipment and Vessels. Heat exchangers transfer heat between process streams and are the most common type of heat?transfer equipment; shell?and?tube designs are particularly widespread. Although the term can apply to any device that exchanges heat, in industry it often denotes apparatus that exchange heat between two process fluids. Equipment in this subcategory is primarily grouped by material and size. Devices known as reboilers, heaters, coolers, condensers, vaporizers, pre?heaters and evaporators are all regarded as heat exchangers, but they are classified here according to their materials and dimensions rather than their conventional names. Among shell?and?tube exchangers, constructions such as U?tube, fixed?head and floating?head designs are included. The classification also encompasses plate?type exchangers and other special forms, with particular emphasis on large shell?and?tube units that operate under high?pressure and high?temperature service because these are the most widely used. LNG vaporisers for regasification form a separate group. For plate heat exchangers, an important distinction is made between manufacturers that stamp their own plates using presses of 20, 12, 10, 8 or the more recently introduced 40?ton capacities and assemble complete units under their own brand, and licensees who fit plates produced by others into locally fabricated frames under a different brand while sometimes naming the plate they use. Special heat exchangers used onshore tend to be large?diameter units (over 500?mm) designed for hydrogen service, whereas offshore specials usually have smaller diameters (under 500?mm). Welded plate heat exchangers cover cross?flow, shell?and?plate and plate?and?frame designs. Evaporators including thin?film and natural or forced?circulation types are included here. Condensers intended for HVAC or commercial cooling are excluded from this subcategory and appear in the Packages group. At a subcategory level, priority is given to the different equipment types, while at the category level attention shifts to the products specifications, such as material and size.
