HOOKS (DRILLING), a type of DRILLING EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS.
Hooks (Drilling) are a type of Drilling Equipment and Materials. In the hoist and winch systems used on drilling rigs these hooks work alongside mobile hoists, winches, swivels, sheaves, travelling blocks, crown blocks, deadline anchors and the supports mounted in the derrick to handle loads. They belong to a broader drilling equipment grouping that covers onshore and offshore operations and that differentiates well safety equipment (materials for mitigating disruptive events, excluding blow?out preventers and items categorised as process control and safety or relief valves), auxiliary drilling equipment (electromagnetic brakes, hydromatic, drum and disc brakes, air clutches, catheads and pulsation dampeners), land blow?out preventers (with offshore counterparts in the subsea equipment category), derricks and masts, and drilling instrumentation. Related subcategories include bottom?hole assembly componentssuch as floating subs, lifting subs, Z?over subs and bit subs along with stabilisers, hole?openers, shock tools and reamershandling tools (backsavers, safety stands, clamps, stabbing guides, tongs, bushings, slips and elevators) and joints and fittings like swivel joints and hammer valves. Hammers are treated separately. Equipment such as engines and generators, as well as pumps used for drilling mud or hydrocarbons, are assigned to other groups.
