DRILLING INSTRUMENTATION, a type of DRILLING EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS.
Drilling Instrumentation are a type of Drilling Equipment and Materials. These instruments and toolssuch as manometers used to measure hydrocarbon pressuresare deployed during drilling onshore and offshore and are distinct from specialised instruments for exploration and reservoir management. The drilling equipment grouping also includes well safety equipment to reduce the risk of disruptive events (excluding blow?out preventers and items categorised under process control and safety or relief valves), auxiliary drilling equipment (electromagnetic brakes, hydromatic, drum and disc brakes, air clutches, catheads and pulsation dampeners), land blow?out preventers (with offshore versions classified under subsea equipment) and the structural derrick or mast. Separate subcategories describe bottom?hole assembly components like floating subs, lifting subs, Z?over subs and bit subs alongside reamers, hole?openers, shock tools and stabilisers; hoists and winches covering deadline anchors, travelling blocks, crown blocks, sheaves, swivels, hooks, hoist supports, mobile hoists and winches; handling tools including backsavers, safety stands, clamps, stabbing guides, tongs, bushings, slips and elevators; and joints and fittings such as swivel joints and hammer valves. Hammers are listed independently, while engines and generators for drilling and pumps for drilling mud or hydrocarbon fluids appear in other equipment categories.
